Goal

Determine whether stationary optimization can operate reliably on supported Mac laptops without blocking tracking indefinitely.

Scope

  • Preserve the approved intent of enabled detection and official reference parameters of 60 seconds and a 100-metre stationary region.
  • The official iOS detector starts its timeout after a stationary activity signal, not simply after 60 seconds without a location. Verify available native Mac capabilities before choosing a mechanism.
  • Evaluate entry into stationary state together with exit/resumption, including sparse and varying location estimates, screen lock and wake.
  • Never treat unavailable location or network as proof of stationary activity, or stop the only signal that could detect renewed movement.
  • If no reliable capability exists, retain ordinary time OR distance tracking without automatic pause and expose actual optimization availability. Do not change the user's explicit pause.

Acceptance criteria

  • A capability report identifies APIs, deployment availability, required permissions and real-Mac evidence.
  • Any implemented stationary path demonstrates both entry and resumption; unsupported/unreliable paths use the approved fallback.
  • No mobile-only sensor/service requirement is silently introduced.
  • The implementation does not wake the Mac or claim tracking during sleep.
  • UI distinguishes stationary optimization from explicit pause and missing location.

Validation

Record a reproducible stationary/movement/wake experiment and uncertainties. This issue may close with a documented unavailable capability plus verified fallback; it must not claim reliable stationary detection solely from a successful build.

References

Pinned official source references for implementation comparison; mobile APIs are not assumed available on macOS.
